
Paul Maar was born on 13 December 1937 in Schweinfurt, Germany. He went to live with his grandfather in the rural area of Theres (in northern Bavaria) after the untimely death of his mother. He went the Gymnasium in Schweinfurt, and then later studied at the State Academy of Arts in Stuttgart. After school he worked as a stage designer photographer for the
Franconian castle theatre, Massbach. For ten years he worked as an art teacher and ever since 1976 he has spent his time as a freelance writer. He currently lives in Bamberg with his wife and three children.
